Good news for Nokia E Serie users!

Quickoffice, Inc., the leading global provider of mobile office productivity software, today announced it will be offering free upgrades to the latest version of Quickoffice for users on certain Nokia Eseries phones. Currently this program includes the Nokia E51, E52, E55, E63, E66, E71, E72, E75 and E90 devices.

Starting today, users of the above devices can download Quickoffice 6 as a free upgrade via Quickmanager®, Quickoffice’s secure on-device, e-commerce portal. Quickoffice 6 includes more advanced document viewing and editing functionality of Microsoft Office 2007 documents, ZIP file support, password-protected file handling, Excel 2007 chart viewing and multiple usability enhancements. Subsequent software updates released by Quickoffice for these select devices will also be available on a continual basis, including PowerPoint 2007 format support. Quickoffice 6 will initially only be available in English and a fully localized update will follow in the near future.

“Through our long-running partnership with Nokia, most S60 users have already benefited by receiving Quickoffice on their devices as part of their phone’s initial firmware, providing users with essential viewing and editing functionality of Office documents,” Gregg Fiddes, VP of sales and strategic partnerships for Quickoffice. “Recently, we’ve been working with Nokia to provide these S60 users with an easy and reliable way to update their Quickoffice software. Now, through Quickmanager, they can easily access the latest version and begin utilizing these new enhancements and feature improvements we’ve developed.”

  • Access Maps, Gmail, News and more all from one place.

As a user experience designer I like to take every opportunity to better understand the issues that get in the way of people making the most of their mobile phones. The development of Google Mobile App for Nokia S60 smartphones, which launched today, has provided an opportunity to address three aspects of an issue we hear about on a regular basis: immediacy.

1. Immediacy of access

We know from our users that navigating through menus introduces an unwanted delay. Our quick key mechanism launches the application directly from the home screen, making search, Google Maps, Gmail, and other Google mobile services available immediately.

2. Immediacy of location

Google Mobile App for Nokia Series 60 smartphones comes with location awareness built in. If you use the My Location feature, you’ll get local search results that relate to where you are. You can opt in or out of this at any time, via the Settings menu.

Search suggestions that combine with your location to give local search results

3. Immediacy of query formulation

We have adopted a dual approach to help make query formulation quick and efficient. First, your search history is readily available so that it’s easy to repeat queries. Second, we offer query suggestions based on what has been entered so far to get you to your results as quickly as possible.

Additionally, we like to work with feedback about earlier versions of our products, such as the quick key launch feature. We found that some users didn’t need a home screen reminder, while others liked having it there. So in Google Mobile App, we added an item in Settings to let people choose what best suits them.

Google Mobile App can be downloaded from http://m.google.com on your phone’s browser.

This is a very cool python application where a ball moving 1D, 2D or 3D inside your Symbian phone. Almost everything are customizable, such as 1D, 2D and 3D and even the effective rate of the ball rebound!

Watch the video how it works.

Tools you need:

  • N95AccelerometerPlugin
  • PythonForS60 1.4.5
  • aXYZ
  • MISO

Download everything here!

The AccelBall 3D author claims that it only works on N93/N95/N95 8GB. I’ve installed AccelBall on my N82. It works fine but just a tiny sign of lagging and no vibration feedback. Might be the problem of MISO. Overall, it is a very cool application. Kudos to MitchS60!

Fancy of the iPhone sms style which has text conversation history viewing? junnikokuki got the idea by introducing Free-iSMS for Symbian S60 users. I’ve been using this application for a few weeks and found that it works with me perfectly. It shows the sender’s name and contact number when the decive received new sms which is missing in Symbian OS. The user interface isn’t running as fluid as the iPhone, there is no fluid but it fine for me. The conversation bubbles can be easily differentiated to read, short-cut key added, bonus features, etc. The only point I found hard to read the text is when scrolling down to read a long text message. You might miss where you just read it after scrolled down.

Free-iSMS is free of charge. You can make donation to the junnikokuki to show your support.
